Travel Advisor 

LEVEL 8a 

Permanent Contract, Part-Time (0.60 FTE – 3 days) *

*The successful candidate will be rostered to work three from seven days per week (Monday to Sunday) having regard to local management requirements. The working day will normally be scheduled between 9:00am and 5:00pm however this may vary for some locations.

Fáilte Ireland invites applications for the position of Travel Advisor. The role will report to the Senior Travel Advisor.

Job Purpose 

Deliver tourist information and support to visitors in the Tourist Information Centre (TIC), and through other communication channels, as required. Proactively contribute to national projects that deliver in-destination tourist information.

Job Description 

Primary Objectives/Key Responsibilities 

Engagement

  • Engage with visitors to support their needs and offer suggestions to enhance their holiday experience with particular reference to the Fáilte Ireland brands.

  • Create itineraries for tourists offering suggestions on things to see and do locally and around Ireland; encouraging visitors to provide feedback through visitor comment forms, surveys, Discover Ireland and Visit Dublin websites, etc.

  • Maintain and replenish up to date supplies of tourist brochures, maps and other printed information and ensure they are well presented.

  • Respond to enquiries promptly and courteously providing timely and accurate information, utilising and referring visitors to discoverireland.ie, visitdublin.com and distributing the Fáilte Ireland map guides.

  • Communicate effectively with all internal and external customers including visitors and the tourism trade.

  • Act as first point of contact for visitor queries, direct local queries regarding developmental opportunities from the tourism trade.

  • Adhere to Fáilte Ireland policies and procedures, as outlined in the Visitor Engagement Handbook.

  • Attend regular team meetings and provide updates from local TIC in agreed format.

 

Support

  • Provide support to Senior Travel Advisors and the Visitor Engagement Officer, as required.

  • Ensure all information is up to date, accurate and complete, including information provision and proof reading of literature, maps etc.

  • Attend other TIC locations for training or to provide leave cover, as required from time to time.

  • Source and provide local tourist information for the organisation and produce information and events listings.

  • Support the Visitor Engagement teams project work as required, including the tourist information kiosks, the community programme and the Champions programme.

  • Assist in rejuvenating and maintaining the TIC to ensure that it is user friendly, visually stimulating, and relevant to the needs of the visitor.

  • Produce accurate weekly statistical information reporting to central database around activity.

  • Conduct regular stock on hand reports as required.

  • Adhere to General Data Protection Regulations in line with Fáilte Ireland policy.

  • Monitor Health and Safety in the office and report in line with Fáilte Ireland policy.

 

Carry out all other duties as required and participate as a full member of the Visitor Engagement Team by supporting different work projects as required, from time to time.

Person Specification 

Essential Criteria 

  • Knowledge and experience of the tourism sector in Ireland

  • Evidence of strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

  • Strong proficiency in IT systems

 

In order to be eligible to apply for this role you must have / demonstrate in your application form the following 

  • A minimum of 6 months experience working in a customer facing role

  • A comprehensive knowledge of the local geography and local and national tourist attractions

  • A proficiency in Microsoft e.g. Teams, Outlook, Excel & Word

  • That you are an articulate communicator with strong interpersonal skills

Qualifications/Mandatory Training 

  • A professional qualification (minimum Level 6 under the QQI Framework) in a related discipline is essential

Desirable Criteria 

  • Experience in the tourism sector would be an advantage

  • 3 Palace Street, Barnardo Square, Dublin 2, D02 T277 and 14 O'Connell Street, Dublin 1, D01 WP59

*Please note that this is a Tourist Information Centre based role. There is a requirement for the post holder to cover two Tourist Information Centre locations. Although Barnardo Square Tourist Information Centre will be the main office location, flexibility would be essential to cover O’Connell Street as required.
